Founded in 2019 the Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (IKIM) brings together researchers from a number of disciplines to perform research, improve patient care and innovate training of tomorrow’s physicians. The institute is part of the University Medicine Essen and the University of Duisburg-Essen.

Our mission is to advance medicine through the responsible and innovative use of artificial intelligence by transforming complex medical and biomedical data into actionable knowledge. Through interdisciplinary collaboration across clinical practice, life sciences, and computer science, we develop cutting-edge methods and practical solutions that improve patient care, enable individualized and sustainable healthcare, and support clinicians and researchers in shaping the future of medicine.
